BMW 520d (N47 & B47 Engines)

  • N47 Engine (2010–2014):

    • Timing chain issues: Located at the back of the engine, making replacement costly. A rattling noise on cold start is the first warning sign.
    • EGR valve & DPF clogging: Frequent short trips can lead to carbon buildup, resulting in loss of power and check-engine lights.

BMW 535d & 550d (N57 Bi-Turbo / Tri-Turbo)

Other Common BMW F10 Issues

  • ZF 8-Speed Automatic Transmission: Very reliable, but preventive fluid changes around 60–70k miles are recommended (despite BMW’s “lifetime fluid” claim).
