Step-by-Step Installation Guide – CarPlay & Android Auto Interface for Mercedes NTG System

This guide explains how to install a CarPlay and Android Auto interface module on a Mercedes equipped with the factory NTG infotainment system.

Once installed, you keep all original vehicle functions while adding modern features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, navigation apps, music streaming, and screen mirroring.

What’s Included in the Kit

Before beginning, check that your package contains the main interface module, the Quadlock wiring harness, the gateway harness, LVDS video cables, and if included, the optional USB / RCA cable for wired connections.

Important Before Installation

The DIP switch configuration must match your screen size and display resolution. Refer to the chart provided in the user manual before powering the unit on.

For safety, switch the ignition off, remove the key, and disconnect the battery if preferred. If disconnecting the battery, place the gear selector in Sport mode (S) first. It is also recommended to protect nearby trim pieces with a soft cloth to avoid scratches during removal.

Removing the Center Console Trim

To access the radio area, start by unclipping the center storage or glove box trim cover.

- Once removed, take out the two screws securing the center console panel.

- Using a plastic trim removal tool, carefully release the panel from its clips. Work slowly from each side until the trim comes free.

Removing the Center Console Trim

With the trim removed, you will now see the mounting screws for the factory head unit.

Remove the four screws holding the unit in place, then gently slide the radio forward so you can reach the rear connectors.

Disconnecting the Factory Wiring

Quadlock Connector

At the back of the unit, begin with the Quadlock connector. Lift the locking lever with a flat-head screwdriver, unplug the factory connector, then connect it to the new harness supplied in the kit. Lock it back into place by lowering the lever.

Next, locate the LVDS video connector. This is usually the round blue plug. Press the retaining tab and disconnect it.

Install the supplied LVDS cable between the factory screen connection and the new module. This allows the interface to display CarPlay or Android Auto on the original Mercedes screen.

LVDS Video Cable

- Locate the LVDS video connector. This is usually the round blue plug. Press the retaining tab and disconnect it.

Install the supplied LVDS cable between the factory screen connection and the new module. This allows the interface to display CarPlay or Android Auto on the original Mercedes screen.

Optional USB Cable Routing

If you plan to use wired CarPlay or Android Auto, route the USB cable now.

The cable can be passed under the glove box or through the center console and placed in a convenient location. If you intend to use the wireless function only, you may skip this step.

Connecting the Interface Module

Connect the Quadlock harness, LVDS cable, gateway harness, and Wi-Fi / Bluetooth antennas to the interface box.

All plugs are keyed differently, so each connector only fits in the correct port.

Cable Management

Once connected, place the module and all wiring neatly behind the radio cavity.

Use tape or zip ties if needed to secure loose cables. Make sure nothing blocks the head unit from sliding back into place.

Good cable management helps prevent rattles and ensures a clean installation.

Testing the System

Before reassembling the dashboard, turn the ignition on.

Press and hold the MEDIA button for approximately three seconds. The display should switch between the factory Mercedes interface and the CarPlay / Android Auto menu.

Check that the screen changes correctly, the interface responds smoothly, and all controls function normally.

Reassembly

After confirming everything works correctly, reinstall the head unit and tighten the four mounting screws.

Refit the center console trim panel, reinstall the two screws, then clip the storage trim cover back into place.

Connecting Your Phone

To pair an Android device, enable Bluetooth and connect to the module (usually shown as CAR-XXXX). Once paired, Android Auto should launch automatically.

For iPhone users, use the same Bluetooth pairing process. Apple CarPlay will open automatically after connection.

After installation, your Mercedes gains modern smartphone integration while keeping the original NTG system fully intact.

You can now enjoy navigation with Google Maps, Waze, or Apple Maps, stream music and podcasts, make hands-free calls, send messages, and use wireless CarPlay or Android Auto—all through the factory display with an OEM-style appearance.
