MDI (Media Device Interface) is Volkswagen's proprietary digital audio input system, introduced from around 2006 across vehicles equipped with the RNS 510, RNS 315, and RCD 510 (Premium 8) head units. However, MDI has no native Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP). When these vehicles were built, wireless streaming from a smartphone was not yet the standard it is today. This means that even if your head unit is otherwise fully functional, you cannot wirelessly stream Spotify, Apple Music, or any other app without a physical connection.
