Please verify that your vehicle is equipped with an AMI port (located in the center armrest, glovebox, or center console) before ordering. This adapter is not compatible with the newer MIB (Modular Infotainment Platform) found in post-2013 facelifted models.

Understanding the AMI System — and Why This Adapter Exists

AMI (Audi Music Interface) is Audi's proprietary digital audio input system, introduced from around 2006. It was designed to connect external devices — originally iPods and USB sticks — directly to the MMI, with full integration: playback controlled via the MMI buttons and rotary dial, track and artist information displayed on the MMI screen, and audio routed through the factory amplifier and speakers.

Unlike a basic AUX input, the AMI connection is digital — the MMI actively communicates with the connected device, which is why audio quality and screen integration are noticeably better.

However, AMI has no native Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP). When these vehicles were built, wireless streaming from a smartphone was not yet the standard it is today. This means that even if your MMI system is otherwise fully functional, you cannot wirelessly stream Spotify, Apple Music, or any other app without a physical connection.
