Why ISOFIX Covers Break So Easily

The ISOFIX flap is moulded from thin, flexible plastic with a living hinge designed to flex thousands of times over the vehicle's life. That hinge is the weak point. Every time a child seat is installed, the cover is pushed back firmly — often with the metal ISOFIX connector prongs scraping across the plastic on the way in.

Parents fitting seats quickly apply more force than the flap was engineered for. The hinge fatigues, the mounting tabs crack, and eventually the cover snaps off or sits at an angle that prevents it from closing flush.
