The Problem With Replacing Just the Caps

Most steering wheel button kits on the market only replace the outer cosmetic caps. That fixes the visual wear — the glossy surfaces, the faded icons, the flattened scroll wheel texture — but it leaves the failing electronics underneath exactly as they were.

On the B9 A4, the electrical failures are often worse than the cosmetic ones. Dome switches lose their defined click and start requiring multiple presses to register a single input. Scroll wheel encoders develop dead zones where rotation produces no response, then suddenly jump two or three menu positions at once.
