The W212 E-Class cupholder sits in the center console, right where your hand naturally reaches for a drink. It was one of the most-used interior components, and Mercedes built it from thin, brittle plastic that was never designed to survive a decade of daily abuse. The retaining arms weaken, the base cracks, and eventually the whole unit stops holding anything securely. On cars with 100,000+ kilometers, a rattling or broken cupholder is practically a given.

What makes it worse is that some European-spec W212s were delivered without front cupholders at all.
