Installing your new mirror caps is straightforward and doesn’t require any specialized tools. Follow this step-by-step guide to upgrade the look of your BMW quickly and safely.
Step 1: Tilt the Mirror Fully Down
Start by adjusting the mirror glass downwards using the control switch on the driver-side door.
Tilting the mirror glass fully down creates space at the top of the mirror, giving you easy access to the mounting system.
Step 2: Remove the Mirror Glass
Carefully insert a plastic trim tool at the top edge of the mirror.
Gently pry to release the mirror glass. The glass is held by strong clips and should come off without difficulty.
Once detached, place the mirror on a clean cloth or surface to avoid scratches.
Step 3: Remove the Old Mirror Cap
With the glass removed, you can now access the inside of the mirror housing.
Release the mirror cap by removing the two inner clips that hold it in place.
Pull the cap straight toward the front of the vehicle.
Once the cap is removed, disconnect the LED turn signal connector and unscrew it (2 Torx screws). The LED is also secured by two clips that can be gently levered using a flathead screwdriver.
Step 4: Install the New Carbon Mirror Cap
Reconnect the LED turn signal, making sure it sits flush with the new mirror cap, and plug the connector back in.
Take your new carbon mirror cap and align the mounting tabs with the support slots (2 on the ends + 2 in the center).
Press firmly until you hear the clips snap into place.
Ensure the cap is perfectly aligned with the mirror housing.
Step 5: Reinstall the Mirror Glass
Align the mirror glass with the central circular clips.
Press gently in the center until you hear a click, confirming the mirror is securely fixed.
It is recommended to return the mirror to the slightly upward tilt used during removal.
Step 6: Adjust the Mirror
Once the mirror glass is reinstalled, use the electrical controls to set the correct viewing angle.
Check that the mirror functions properly and provides optimal rear visibility.
