The W205 C-Class uses a soft-touch rubberized coating on the glovebox latch handle. It looks and feels premium when new, but after a few years of daily contact with skin oils, hand cream, and UV exposure through the windshield, the coating begins to degrade. It gets sticky, peels away in strips, or turns from matte black into a patchy, discolored mess. On higher-mileage cars, the plastic underneath can also crack from the repeated push-to-open impacts.
