Step-by-Step Installation Guide – CarPlay & Android Auto Interface for Mercedes NTG System

This guide walks you through the complete installation of a CarPlay and Android Auto interface module on a Mercedes equipped with the factory NTG infotainment system.

The upgrade keeps all original vehicle functions intact while adding modern features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and screen mirroring.

Kit Contents

Before starting, make sure your package includes the following components:

The main interface module (metal control box with multiple ports), the primary Quadlock wiring harness, the gateway harness, LVDS video cables, and the optional RCA + USB harness for wired smartphone connection.

Important Note Before Installation

The DIP switch settings must match your screen size and display resolution.

Always check the chart included in the user manual before powering on the module.

Preparation & Safety

Before beginning installation, switch the ignition off and remove the key.

For additional safety, you may disconnect the battery. If doing so, place the gear selector in Sport mode (S) before disconnecting power.

Use a soft cloth or protective towel around trim pieces to help prevent scratches during removal.

Removing the Center Dashboard Trim

To access the radio area:

Use a hook tool to carefully remove the left and right center air vents.

- Once the vents are removed, use a plastic trim tool to release the upper dashboard trim panel. Work slowly and evenly to avoid damaging clips.

Removing the Factory Head Unit

With the trim removed, you can now access the factory radio.

- Remove the two screws securing the unit in place.

- Lower the two retaining clips.

- Then gently pull the head unit outward.

Disconnecting the Factory Connectors

Quadlock Connector

- Use a flat-head screwdriver to lift the locking lever on the factory Quadlock plug.

- Disconnect the original connector, then attach it to the new harness supplied with the kit. Lock it in place by lowering the lever.

- Reconnect the new harness back into the factory head unit.

Important: If your Mercedes is equipped with the factory CD changer or original video system, it may use a fiber optic connection.

In that case, transfer the orange fiber optic plug into the connector that plugs into the head unit.

LVDS Video Cable

- Locate the LVDS port, usually identified by a round blue connector.

- Press the retaining tab and unplug the original cable.

- Install the supplied LVDS cable between the factory head unit and the interface module.

This creates a video pass-through, allowing the module to display CarPlay and Android Auto on the factory screen.

Optional USB / RCA Cable Routing

If you would like to use wired CarPlay or Android Auto, route the USB cable now.

The cable can be run under the glove box area or through the center console and positioned somewhere easy to access.

If you plan to use wireless mode only, this step may be skipped.

Connecting the Interface Module

Connect all supplied cables to the interface box:

- Quadlock Connector

- LVDS Video Cable

- Gateway Harness

- Wi-Fi and Bluetooth antennas

Cable Management

Once all connections are complete, place the module and wiring behind the radio cavity.

Bundle excess wiring neatly with electrical tape or zip ties, and make sure nothing interferes with reinstalling the head unit.

Proper cable routing helps ensure a clean and reliable installation.

Testing the System

Before reassembling the dashboard:

Turn the ignition on.

Press and hold the C button for about three seconds.

The system should switch between:

- Factory Mercedes interface

- CarPlay / Android Auto interface

Confirm that the display changes properly and that the interface responds smoothly.

Reassembly

Once testing is complete:

- Reinstall the head unit and tighten the two mounting screws

- Reinstall the head unit and tighten the two mounting screws.

- Refit the center dashboard trim panel.

- Clip both center air vents back into place.

Connecting Your Smartphone

Android Auto

- Enable Bluetooth on your phone and connect to the device name shown on screen, usually something similar to CAR-XXXX.

- Accept the pairing request and Android Auto should launch automatically.

Apple CarPlay

- Use the same Bluetooth pairing process with your iPhone.

- Apple CarPlay will start automatically once connected.
