Why the Trunk Handle Breaks

The boot handle carpet is under tensile stress every time the lid is closed. Unlike a door handle — which you push or pull along a predictable axis — the trunk pull is grabbed at an angle and jerked downward, often with wet or gloved hands, often when the user is holding something else in the other arm. The carpet fabric frays at the loop edge first, pulled loose by repeated finger pressure at the same point on every closure.

Beneath the fabric, the plastic mounting base is clipped rather than bolted into the boot lid liner. The clip geometry is designed for easy assembly at the factory, not for sustained pull loads.
