Upgrading your BMW with carbon fiber mirror caps is a straightforward modification that requires only basic tools. Follow the steps below to safely remove the original mirror caps and install the new ones.
Step 1: Tilt the Mirror Fully Up
Start by adjusting the mirror using the control switch located on the driver’s door.
Tilt the mirror fully upward. This position creates space at the bottom of the mirror and makes it easier to access the mounting system.
Step 2: Remove the Mirror Glass
Carefully insert a plastic trim removal tool under the lower edge of the mirror.
Gently pry outward to release the mirror glass. The mirror is secured with durable clips and typically detaches without much effort.
Once removed, place the mirror glass on a clean cloth or soft surface to prevent scratches.
Step 3: Remove the Original Mirror Cap
With the mirror glass removed, you will now have access to the inside of the mirror housing.
Unscrew the Torx mounting screws that hold the mirror cap in place.
After removing the screws, the mirror cap can be easily pulled off the housing.
Step 4: Install the New Carbon Fiber Mirror Cap
Take your new carbon fiber mirror cap and align the mounting tabs with the corresponding slots on the mirror housing.
Press firmly until the clips snap securely into place.
Make sure the cap sits perfectly flush with the mirror housing for a clean and secure fit.
Step 5: Reinstall the Mirror Glass
Align the mirror glass with the central circular mounting clips.
Press gently in the center of the mirror until you hear a click, confirming that it is properly secured.
For easier installation, it is recommended to keep the mirror in the same slightly upward-tilted position used during removal.
Step 6: Adjust the Mirror
Once the mirror glass is back in place, use the electrical mirror controls to adjust the angle.
Check that everything is functioning properly and that rear visibility is optimal.
